Port & Pastries: An Evening with the
Thursday, 10 September 2026 | 18:30
Mary Sumner House, 24 Tufton Street, London, SW1P 3RB
On the anniversary of the historic demarcation of the Douro Valley, established in 1756 as the world’s first regulated wine region, the Anglo-Portuguese Society is delighted to host an exceptional evening dedicated to the enduring legacy and evolving story of Port wine.
Set within the distinguished surroundings of Mary Sumner House, this special tasting marks not only a pivotal moment in viticultural history, but also celebrates the continued relevance of Port as both a cultural and commercial emblem of the Anglo-Portuguese relationship.
We are honoured to welcome back the School of Port, the pioneering educational initiative of Symington Family Estates, one of the Douro Valley’s most respected and historic producers. Established during the global pandemic to continue in-depth wine education beyond traditional formats, the School of Port has since developed into an internationally recognised platform, offering expert-led digital courses, workshops, and content to both professionals and enthusiasts alike.
Guiding the evening will be Adam Odor, wine educator for the School of Port and a member of the Society, who will lead an engaging and accessible tasting exploring the full spectrum of Port styles. From vibrant ruby expressions to refined tawnies and exceptional aged vintages, guests will be taken on a curated journey through the depth, elegance, and versatility of this remarkable wine. The experience will be complemented by expert insights into food pairings, serving traditions, and the craftsmanship shaped by over five generations of winemaking heritage.
We are also pleased to extend a warm welcome to our friends from the Anglo-Brazilian Society, who join us for this occasion and will benefit from the Society’s member rate, reflecting the spirit of shared heritage and friendship that continues to unite our communities.
Whether you are discovering Port for the first time or seeking to deepen your appreciation, this promises to be an evening of both education and enjoyment, rooted in history, yet distinctly contemporary in outlook.
